Don’t get lost in the data. Why creativity wins every time.
At SocialWest in Calgary, I shared a simple but increasingly important idea: in a world shaped by AI and automation, human creativity becomes more valuable, not less.
We're spending most of our time talking about what AI can do. It can analyze data, generate content, automate tasks, and improve efficiency at remarkable speed. But efficiency has never been what makes people care about or choose a brand.
People connect with ideas, remember stories and respond to emotion.
With AI the competitive advantage shifts. When everyone has access to similar tools, what matters is how you think, what you create, and how well you understand the people you're trying to reach.
Data can tell us what is happening. Creativity helps us understand why it matters. I believe the future belongs not to human versus machine, but to human with machine. The brands and organizations that thrive will be those that use technology to amplify human insight, imagination and creative thinking, not replace it.
One of the most encouraging parts of SocialWest was seeing so many marketers and leaders embracing that challenge. The conversations were thoughtful, practical, and optimistic about what comes next.
A huge thank you to Mike Morrison and the entire SocialNext team for creating a conference that continues to bring together some of the brightest minds in our industry for the tenth year. The speaker lineup was exceptional, including the incomparable Sabaa Quao, and I left inspired by the conversations, ideas, and energy in the room. And thank you Calgary for the warm Western welcome.
More than ever, gatherings like this help give Canada the creative and competitive edge we need for the future.
